HOMETHIS MOTHERS' DAY...GIVE YOUR MOTHER OR OTHER LOVED ONE A GIFT THAT WILL BRING JOY AND RELIEF TO AN IRAQI REFUGEE MOTHER AND HER CHILDRENEvery mother wants the same things - for their children to be safe, well and their needs to be met. For Iraqi mothers, providing these things for their children are difficult. Their children have experienced the extreme violence of war, often having lost a loved one and sometimes even witnessing their death. These mothers have had to tear their children from all they have known and flee to safety with them to Jordan, bringing nothing with them but a suitcase of clothing.They may be safe here but life in exile isn't easy: often there is no income at all and even putting a simple meal on the table is challenging. When their children are sick, they cannot afford medicine. When there is no money, the utilities get shut off, leaving them in the dark or without running water. Sometimes an entire family has to share one or two blankets at night and mothers must cuddle their young ones closely, trying to keep them warm. Sometimes they and their children are accepted into counseling programs to help them deal with their traumas and the insecurity they face as refugees but there isn't enough money to pay for bus fare to get to these appointments. Sometimes they don't have money to pay for the inexpensive uniforms and supplies their children need in order to be enrolled in public schools. Think of all the myriad needs of children and how hard it is for mothers when they cannot provide for them.Collateral Repair Project funds these and the many other needs of Iraqi mothers and their families.
