International Women’s Day is March 8th! IWD is a day set apart to celebrate the achievements of women worldwide and call for further change. This year the theme is “Empowering Women: Empowering Humanity: Picture It!” At CRP, it is very important for us to give the women in our community a voice, which is why many of our programs and activities are designed to encourage women to feel empowered and to advocate for themselves in a safe space.
An excellent example of a young female making changes in her community is Muna, an active teen leader in our After School Club. Originally, Muna wanted to get involved in a new activity, but through After School Club, she has developed an excitement for facilitating the personal growth of others. Muna commented: “At first I just wanted to experience something new but now i feel like a big sister or a mother to all the kids. Now I feel like women don’t just have to be wives, they can be sisters, mothers, friends, teachers, translators and I even get to lead the boys!” It is the encouragement in personal growth and simply giving the opportunity for women to lead that can lead to a brighter future.
