Leila is always nicely made up, her cheekbones rosy and her lipstick a bright red. She’s upbeat and involved — always lending a hand to everyone around. In English class, she fancies herself the class translator — and she does it well. But when among Iraqis, Leila likes to point out that she is actually of Jordanian descent, though her husband is Iraqi.
They have a very young daughter, with whom Leila spends most of her time. She explains that she tries to teach her daughter English because she wants her to speak as well as the volunteers at the center. She is very excited to learn English at CRP, too.
Leila dreams of taking her daughter swimming, but the Dead Sea is too far for them to travel. She says that she and her husband dream of traveling. When asked where, she responds, "another world."
